This project was done together with the local urban gardening community and the Umeå municipality. The park being public we had our challenges in accommodating the visions of both parties. The greenhouse and the satellite platforms work as an open gathering space which lengthens the season for growing also with the ability to storage tools.
The main goal, though, was to raise awareness of the importance of sustainable growing of food and its distribution and spread knowledge and engage in the process, show how easy and fun it can be.

#broparkengrows
Creating a new platform based on an existing one.
Looking ahead through what has already been.
To grow, but not to become big.
To tell, but not necessarily by speaking.
To share and pass on, to look at the meaning and context, to the great and to the small.
With its fertile soil, the Broparken has served the city in many ways through Umeå’s history.
With its central location it has been important as a field of cultivation for potatoes during the war years,
and still stands today as a natural connection point.
Umeå. Wants more. Broparken. Wants more.
We want to create a place where cultivation is a seed that can grow to knowledge and community.
The group’s manifesto (originally in Swedish)
